Happy New Year!

· Over Coffee,Personal Blog

I wanted to start a personal blog on here, for you to get to know me better and hopefully for me to get to know you better too! So each fortnight I will be posting about my life, things I like and inviting you to join me on Facebook to talk about you! Jen x

Happy New Year!

This fortnight in my world

Well Christmas was a bit of a whirlwind! I had a lovely time with my family and ate some delicious veggie food - Marks and Spencer's nut roast was AMAZING!

I won a gym membership so have had a few sessions at Suffolk Strength Academy - I'm aching but really enjoying it. Great group of people and a fantastic way of working out. It's small group sessions - up to 4 people, so the trainer can work individually with you. Watch out for annoying work out selfies!

My essay was due in over January and I found it fascinating to write and research. My own time management was called into question though when I got called in to work when someone was sick and that lost me my editing day. I hope this hasn't negatively impacted my essay too much but I also wish I'd had that extra day for the overall edit and double checking the references. Next blog you'll find out my result!

In the kitchen - What have I been cooking and eating?

I've been delving through Deliciously Ella's Every Day and making her Chickpea and Squash Salad - it's absolutely delicious!

In my house - what's going on in my world of inspiration?

Three Billboards Outside Epping Missouri - I saw this on my birthday, it was billed as a black comedy and it is definitely dark. It's also incredibly moving and really funny. The acting is fantastic with Sam Rockwell pulling off an incredibly complex character incredibly well. The subject matter is hard, the murder of a young girl, but it's not explicit or overly graphic. Well worth a watch.

Music -

This album is gorgeous, I first heard it on BBC Radio Three and immediately bought it. The jazz version of 'Stay Awake' brings the softness of Julie Andrews with a strength and velvet voice of Laura Mvula.

Listen to 'Stay Awake' Here

Podcast -

I listen to Woman's Hour on my commute and love the subjects covered. From legislation around domestic violence to stories of menopause you get fantastic guests, informed interviews and great discussion. Episodes are available on IPlayer.

I've had an essay due this month and so not had a fiction book on the go but will be popping to the library soon to remedy that.

Still working my way through this and really enjoying it. It does through a lot up and it can be hard to read as you are having to witness your own judgements, which isn't always easy. But the non-judgemental tone of the book and Gabby's own examples shows that she is on this journey too.

In others words.... quotes, poems and awesome stuff someone else said!

I Have A Rendezvous With Death by Alan Seeger

I have a rendezvous with Death
At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
And apple-blossoms fill the air—
I have a rendezvous with Death
When Spring brings back blue days and fair.

It may be he shall take my hand
And lead me into his dark land
And close my eyes and quench my breath—

It may be I shall pass him still.
I have a rendezvous with Death
On some scarred slope of battered hill,
When Spring comes round again this year
And the first meadow-flowers appear.

God knows ’twere better to be deep
Pillowed in silk and scented down,
Where Love throbs out in blissful sleep,
Pulse nigh to pulse, and breath to breath,
Where hushed awakenings are dear…
But I’ve a rendezvous with Death
At midnight in some flaming town,
When Spring trips north again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous.

Journal prompt - what am I contemplating this week?

What do I truly want?
